My name is John Mesplay and I am writing this blog to show that there are many ways to help your golf game other than practicing golf techniques. I am a golf professional in Danville, KY and like most golfers I see each day, I have become very sedentary crossing the threshold of age 40.
I am looking to create some of the energy I had in my 20's and early 30's. But like the old saying goes, you have to give a little to get a little. That equals to me getting some excercise at least a few days a week. I used to play basketball, racquetball, wallyball and other things to keep myself in respectable condition. However, my knees gave me more trouble each year til finally I couldn't tolerate the pain and swelling after each physical activity.
Following two surgeries, one on each knee to repair torn meniscus, my wife has persuaded me to obtain the professional help of a physical trainer. I had a phone consultation with him yesterday and we have our first session scheduled for Monday morning at 8:30am.
I have several goals to accomplish with this project and I am sure there will be more as we move further along with the workouts. My first goal is to strengthen my legs to absorb some of the shock my knees can no longer handle. Second, I want to improve my cardio-vascular fitness. Third, I want to condition myself through proper weight training for a stronger more consistent golf swing.
Why am I writing all of these things for everyone to see? Hopefully, it will give others the motivation they need to improve their quality of life while also improving the game for a lifetime, GOLF!
Wish me luck on Monday, I hope I'm not too sore to type!!!
